Felipe Molina Describes His Own Culture
By Edith Nies
Misconceptions about the Yaqui (Yoeme) people are widespread because the New Age movement has turned them into gurus. Carlos Castañeda has surely put this tribe on the map, but not in a way the Yaquis might have liked to see it. The one book which has been written from a Yaqui point of view (`Yaqui Deer Songs' by Felipe S. Molina) offers us a glimpse into a world which is, in many ways, very different from ours. You can read about the sacred deer and its meaning to the Yaquis, but I guess you have to be a Yaqui to grasp its full meaning. I would recommend this book to anyone who is truly interested in the world view of the Yaqui people.

exquisite poetry in Yaqui and English
By A Customer
The lyrics of the Yaqui Deer Songs are magical, moving poetry both in English translations and in the liquid sounds of the Yaqui originals. This book gives a sense of the true flavor of Yaqui culture and spirituality.

Alternative Leadership Strategies in the Prehispanic SouthwestFrom University of Arizona Press

In considerations of societal change, the application of classic evolutionary schemes to prehistoric southwestern peoples has always been problematic for scholars. Because recent theoretical developments point toward more variation in the scale, hierarchy, and degree of centralization of complex societies, this book takes a fresh look at southwestern prehistory with these new ideas in mind.

This is the first book-length work to apply new theories of social organization and leadership strategies to the prehispanic Southwest. It examines leadership strategies in a number of archaeological contexts—from Chaco Canyon to Casas Grandes, from Hohokam to Zuni—to show striking differences in the way that leadership was constructed across the region.

These case studies provide ample evidence for alternative models of leadership in middle-range societies. By illustrating complementary approaches in the study of political organization, they offer new insight into power and inequality. They also provide important models of how today's archaeologists are linking data to theory, providing a basis for comparative analysis with other regions.

Alternative Leadership Strategies in the Prehispanic Southwest
By A. A. A. Mol
"Alternative Leadership Strategies in the Prehispanic Southwest" is a collection of papers that is clear in its outset, coherent in its structure, and that hits the mark in two important ways, making this an example of sound archaeological scholarship.
Firstly, it critiques the way in which the political situation of the American Southwest has been portrayed and researched by archaeologists and then picks up on a number of theoretical concepts (including dual-processual theory, heterarchy, and complex-adaptive-system theory) by giving a clear explanation and implementing them in the regional discourse. Secondly, using these theories case-studies are presented in a number of papers, of which some present fresh and sophisticated accounts of alternative leadership strategies.
All in all, this book can be considered to be one of the milestones in Southwestern archaeology, making it invaluable for a regional specialist of these Native American cultures and histories. Additionally, this collection of papers can be considered of value and a good read for those of the general archaeological public who like thinking out of the box, both regionally and theoretically.

Ocean Power: Poems from the Desert (Sun Tracks), by Ofelia Zepeda

The annual seasons and rhythms of the desert are a dance of clouds, wind, rain, and flood—water in it roles from bringer of food to destroyer of life. The critical importance of weather and climate to native desert peoples is reflected with grace and power in this personal collection of poems, the first written creative work by an individual in O'odham and a landmark in Native American literature.

Poet Ofelia Zepeda centers these poems on her own experiences growing up in a Tohono O'odham family, where desert climate profoundly influenced daily life, and on her perceptions as a contemporary Tohono O'odham woman. One section of poems deals with contemporary life, personal history, and the meeting of old and new ways. Another section deals with winter and human responses to light and air. The final group of poems focuses on the nature of women, the ocean, and the way the past relationship of the O'odham with the ocean may still inform present day experience. These fine poems will give the outside reader a rich insight into the daily life of the Tohono O'odham people.

From Library Journal
"Listen./You can hear it./The stones in the earth rattling together." Simon J. Ortiz is just one of the Native Americans included in Home Places who takes us beyond the stereotypes and cliches we may have come to expect. Chosen from 25 years of Sun Tracks, the literary magazine published from the American Indian Studies Program at the University of Arizona, these poems, stories, and songs are rich in tradition, ancestry, and the wonders and beauty of the natural world. As these paths go out into the world, however, they travel inward as well: the women and men writing become real, their hearts and souls stripped bare. "My house is the red earth: it could be the center of the world," says Joy Harjo. As real as her place is to Harjo, this world has many centers. As the editors point out in their introduction, "nearly as many Indian tribes exist in the 20th Century as when Europeans first encountered them in the 1600s." It is only fitting, then, that this is a multilingual text, incorporating as many as five Native languages. Both new and established writers represent the more than 300 tribes who still inhabit home place in North America. Zepeda is a Tohono O'odham woman, a mother, a daughter, and a poet. Her tribe, Desert People of the Southwest, are steeped in traditional values and cultural ways. Ocean Power (a bilingual volume) depicts the respect and even reverence she was raised to feel in the presence of nature. Her relationship to the world is more, though; it is sisterly, motherly. The respect is mutual, as she understands it, and that makes reverence possible: "Grown men with dry fear in their throats/watch the water come closer and closer." Blaeser comes from much of the same tradition, though her home place is more to the north. A Chippewa from the Minnesota lake region, she writes poems informed by the natural world as well, but she acknowledges more openly the outside world, full of its own ritual and tradition. She opens her mail with an allusion to million-dollar sweepstakes, notices Wrigley Field on a trip to "the Chicago Pow Wow," and sees the dichotomy in her hands: "One wears silver and tourquoise, a Zuni bracelet and a Navaho ring./One wears gold and diamonds, an Elgin watch and a Simonson's half-carat." Blaeser's place includes the rivers and trees and wondrous wildlife but also Barbie dolls, the 4-H, and awareness of the bomb. There are still many people who imagine the indigenous people of North America in flashes of John Ford films and memories of the novels of Louis L'Amour. Their ideas are crusted with cliches from another time, wrong even then but certainly outdated. More reading of work like this?the writings of contemporary Native Americans?could go a long way toward dispelling the myths. Recommended for any large collection, but especially any with a special interest in Native Americans.?Louis McKee, Painted Bride Arts Ctr., Philadelphia

"A fine first volume of quietly powerful poems that reflect the oral traditions of her Tohono O'odham people." —Western American Literature

"A fresh look at the desert from the perspective of people that adapted to that land over many centuries . . . Zepeda frequently constructs evocative images of life in the desert that are seldom seen." —Visions Magazine

"Zepeda's imagery captures the most subtle perceptions of the natural world-the smell of coming rain, the taste of dust-and her poems, deriving from tribal, family, and personal memories, reveal an intense and characteristically Tohono consciousness of weather, sky, earth, and water, of the landmarks which measure the passage of the seasons, and of nature in both its positive and negative manifestations." —World Literature Today

"Her poems let us glimpse the Pimería Alta from an O'odham point of view. The desert is achingly palpable here." —Southwest Mission Research Center

From the Inside Flap
The annual seasons and rhythms of the desert are a dance of clouds, wind, rain, and flood--water in it roles from bringer of food to destroyer of life. These fine poems will give the outside reader a rich insight into the daily life of the Tohono O'odham people.

comfort food for the soul
By S. Franks
I can't put my finger on it, but this is one of the books I keep next to my bed for when my soul is feeling black. It's simple, home-ey, powerful.

Also, if you happen to be from southern Arizona, it's good to get to know your neighbors a bit more.

When I feel like I'm in an urban jail, I remember the moon hanging over the Sea of Cortez in one poem, I and I remember there's so much more to the universe...

Amazon.com Review
The subtitle of Descriptionary says it's "the book for when you know what it is, but not what it's called." Pretty useful, eh? But that description is also a bit limiting, as this handy reference guide can be just as easily used as a standard dictionary when you do know what the word is. Rather than the alphabetical arrangement found in dictionaries and thesauruses, the words here are grouped according to general categories, such as animal and insects, food and drink, the human body and mind, and occupations. Within these broad areas are subheadings--"environment" has been divided into 30 categories ranging from atmosphere to wind. The word listings in these short sections are alphabetical, and while each has a straightforward explanation, you won't find alternative spellings, a pronunciation guide, or any of those dictionary-standard accompaniments to the definition.

So why use this instead of a standard dictionary? Mainly, in order to take advantage of the unusual word arrangement, as it can operate most efficiently when you're writing a paper about a specific topic. Civics students looking up "malfeasance" will find on the same page a variety of words that may spark new ideas and instantly increase practical vocabulary, as any words that catch your eye will be closely related to the topic at hand. Also great for students is the "1,050 Words and Expressions You Should Know" chapter--from "ad hoc" to "zealous," it covers words used regularly in magazines, newspapers, and textbooks. Adults learning a new skill or deciphering current events will find that the sections function nicely as a glossary; the sections on sports, politics, gardening, and cooking are especially helpful in this manner. --Jill Lightner

From School Library Journal
YA-- A dictionary of generic terms or ``buzz words'' of over 20 categories that include the environment, animals, the human body and mind, performing arts and broadcasting, sports, the law, medicine, finance, the military, language, food and drink, and electronics. The book is both fun and useful. The definitions are easy to understand, and YAs can use it to gain a feel for a particular subject or to define a specific word in its thematic use. Its only faults are that subject-area terminology is not all inclusive and specialized subjects need illustrations to clarify definitions. Still, it's an enjoyable and worthwhile reference book.

From Library Journal
Most dictionaries and thesauruses are not designed to assist users who know subjects or definitions and seek corresponding words or terms, but this work is different. Organized into more than 20 thematic categories"including animals and insects, clothing, language, religions, sports, and weapons, each further subdivided"it allows you to look up something when you know what it is but not what it is called. Thus, from this fascinating resource you can learn that a caption under a picture is a cutline, a rhyming adjective/noun combination is a stinky pinky, and the metal tag at the end of a shoelace (found under parts of a shoe in the 20th-century clothing part of the section on clothing) is an aglet. Astute readers may quibble with the wording of some definitions (ISBN is defined as a universal identification number printed on the back of a book to facilitate sales ), but it is understandable that such brief entries cannot cover the complexities of some terms. New to this edition is a lengthy section with the pronunciations and definitions of more than 1000 erudite words and expressions. Collections interested in true thesauruses or reverse dictionaries may prefer The New American Roget!s College Thesaurus in Dictionary Form (1985), Illustrated Reverse Dictionary (LJ 3/15/91), or Reverse English Dictionary (Mouton de Gruyter, 1999)."Elizabeth Connor, Medical Univ. of South Carolina Lib., Charleston

a useful resource
By audrey frances
The organization of this dictionary is unique and mostly successful.

I set myself a task of trying to "find" seven items: igneous rock, a Nehru jacket, plie, onomatopoeia, ballast and cream. Finding a category called Environment led to a subcategory of Geology which was 3 pages long -- it took about 30 seconds to find "igneous". Looking under Clothing and then right on to the Jackets subcategory, I was able to find "Nehru jacket" in about ten seconds. Performing Arts and Broadcasting led to a subcategory of Dance and a sub-subcategory of Ballet which was 2 pages long -- it took only 12 seconds to find "plie". A category called Words About Words was 8 pages long -- trying to find "onomatopoeia" here, if you didn't know what letter it started with, was time-consuming; still, it was easier than finding it in a standard dictionary! It was surprisingly easy to find "ballast", listed under Transportation and located in the short listing under the sub-category Aviation, sub-subcategory Aircraft and sub-sub-subcategory Balloons. Finally, trying to find out about the layers of milk to find "cream" was unsuccessful. Looking under Animals and then the subcategory Livestock I found only a list of dairy cattle breeds, and looking in the index at the back under "dairy" and "milk" I found nothing applicable, though I did look up "milk-kneading" and "milk-teeth" when I ran across them just out of curiosity. And that is a positive feature -- that this dictionary, like many good reference tools, allows and even encourages serendipitous forays into its contents.

There is a very inclusive alphabetical index at the back, in case you don't know where to begin in an organizational map such as the Contents.

This reference tool's flaws are most likely due to the author's interests or weaknesses. For instance, while Sports gets a whopping 70 pages, the Food section is only 8 pages long and divided into four subcategories, one of which is French cooking terms and the other three are about liquor! A science category per se is not present, though human biology can be found under Medicine, some information will be found under Animals, and a fair amount of information is available under Environment, though you would be hard-pressed to find any mention of chemistry or physics here.

Another weakness is the absence of pronunciation or usage guides in any but the '1,050 Words and Expressions You Should Know' section. In addition, one is basically limited to nouns. That given, there should be pictures, which would make identification much quicker, particularly in sections like Tools.

All in all, this is a very useful resource with some limitations, and I recommend it.

It's on the tip of my tongue...
By FrKurt Messick
De.scrip.tion.ary, n., a big book of words arranged in a common sense order designed to help the reader find an unknown word. Similar to dictionary and thesaurus, with key differences.
Many times, people have the word just on the tip of their tongues, but cannot find the word. Dictionaries are often no help in such instances. Despite the wealth of information contained therein, and the imminently logical organisation (the same goes for a thesaurus), often what is needed is more of a reverse directory. Indeed, comedians past and present have made entire routines out of the difficulties of using a dictionary (how does one look up the spelling of a word if one doesn't know how to spell it?). While these difficulties have doubtless been exaggerated, there is definitely room on the reference shelf for a book such as the Descriptionary, a wonderful resource for finding just the right word from a definition.
`A standard dictionary will tell you the meaning of a word, a thesaurus will give you a list of synonyms, but only Descriptionary directs you straight to the word itself.'
The Descriptionary is arranged thematically. These themes are developed and arranged by broad category, narrowing the field of research for any given word search. Under each broad theme, there are literally thousands of words. The definitions are not lengthy, but just of sufficient length to permit identification.
- Animals and Insects
- Architecture
- Clothing
- Electronics
- Environment
- Finance
- Food and Drink
- Human Body and Mind
- Language
- Law
- Magic and the Occult
- Medicine
- Military
- Music
- Occupations
- Performing Arts
- Religions
- Sports
- Tools
- Transportation
- Weapons
However, thousands of words per category would still make for a daunting task of location of just the right word. Therefore, each major theme is broken into smaller sections, and yet smaller subsections. Take, for instance, the organisation under the heading Religions:
Religions
..Ancient Religions
....Ancient Egyptian Worship
....Greek and Roman Mythology
....Monsters and Fabulous Creatures
..Modern Religions
....Buddhism
....Christianity
....Hinduism
....Islam
....Judaism
Perhaps it will be your dharma to forget the term for enlightenment (under Buddhism, nirvana), or perhaps your searching requires some cutting edge information (under Judaism, see mohel). You needn't be gifted in speaking in tongues (glossolalia, under Christianity) to find the right word here.
Each subsection contains a few hundred words, which makes the Descriptionary very useful for looking up related and relevant terms in any area. Rather than having to fumble through a dictionary for hoped-for connexions based on definitions, one has in one compact list all of the major terminology for each category and subcategory. In very few dictionaries would one be able to find the connexions between the words ablation, drift, horn, striation, and trimline (they all have to do with glaciers).
The index is wonderful for pinpointing the multiple uses of words. For instance, the word ace has multiple meanings, including one definition under Performing Arts and no fewer than five different meanings under Sports. This book will help one to ace the understanding.
Following the main part of the Descriptionary is a section entitled `1050 words and expressions you should know'. The author has here compiled a listing of 'big' words and phrases that turn up on a fairly regular basis in such media as Time, Newsweek, and broadcast news. These are fairly common words that are often misunderstood. The literate may wonder that so many common and 'easy' words are included here; they are, unfortunately, included because of the current state of education -- so many high school and even college graduates lack a working literate vocabulary. However, it does the scholar's ego good -- there was not one word or phrase among the 1050 that was unfamiliar to me.
This is an American book. The definitions and descriptions definitely assume the American derivative of English. Under Sports, for instance, there is both football and soccer descriptions, but no cricket. However, Sports does get considerable play by including everything from archery to windsurfing to bullfighting to thoroughbred racing.
We each of us have our blind spots in education, and the Descriptionary, by pulling the key vocabulary of each field together in a brief and succinct manner, serves to provide a ready reference 'cheat sheet' to understanding the major points of almost any popular topic. The author, Marc McCutcheon, is a freelance author, perhaps best known for his work on 'Roget's Super Thesaurus' and 'The Facts On File Student Thesaurus'. A talented and experienced wordsmith, McCutcheon's Descriptionary will help ensure you are never without the right word.

Reverse look-up for specific words
By Debbie Lee Wesselmann
This "descriptionary" is based on the premise that sometimes we know the function of an object but not its name. McCutcheon has thus divided his book into categories, not much different in theory from the traditional thesaurus structure. For instance, if you want to know the word for the paw motion cats and kittens do that looks like kneading, you look up first the main section on "Animals," then the subcategory "Cats", and finally find the word: "milk-treading." The main categories are broad, including finance, clothing, weapons, sports, and many others. My main complaint is that it is not comprehensive enough. I would like to see a volume twice as thick so I would have a greater chance of finding the word I wanted.
Despite its flaws, DESCRIPTIONARY offers word help when it is most needed.

Read Gatsby again instead
By Sam Quixote
John Unger goes to a posh university where he meets a posh chap who takes him to his family’s posh residence – a house built on a diamond as big as a mountain! But now that John knows their family’s secret… he can never leave!

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s favourite subject was the rich. From his greatest creation, Jay Gatsby, to this, his most famous short story, Fitzgerald absolutely adores writing about the glamorous lives they led. Also, not being of that world, he was quite critical of it too and The Great Gatsby is a damning portrayal of the rich’s behaviour. The Diamond as Big as the Ritz is more of the same but is written in a more fantastical, less artistic style.

The names of the places are very unsubtle. John Unger is from Hades (Mississippi) just so at the end they can, literally, go back to Hades, to a less luxurious life, because the middle class is so ghastly/hellish, what! He attends the prestigious St Midas’s University – wealth is a religion in America and their patron saint is Midas, a name synonymous with gold. The University produces “priests” of wealth who produce more for their “god”.

Also that first page is just weird. Unger’s mum packs his bags with electric fans – what, were they like currency back in the 1920s? Why does he need plural fans? – while his dad gives him an asbestos pocketbook full of cash. He’s gonna need that money to pay for his cancer treatment from that asbestos! It’s pretty poorly dated and that’s not even mentioning the “negro slaves” constantly present in the background!

The story itself is quite boring and overlong. Fitzgerald witters on with his descriptions of his idea of wealth back in the day (literally rolling out of bed into a bath, every single morning – ooo, how… mundane), while slowly uncovering this uninteresting story of how fabulous wealth isolates people and makes them do terrible things. It’s a dull tale with very on-the-nose themes.

I love The Great Gatsby – it’s an entertaining, bittersweet tale beautifully written with a powerful message at its core. I’ve read it at least three times. In comparison, Diamond is slow, boring, poorly written with nothing insightful to say – almost like a less talented writer is trying to parody Fitzgerald! Both stories are essentially about the same thing but Gatsby does so in far better style – read that instead.

This book contains 5 charming tales that range from the bittersweet ("Bernice bobs her hair") over the cautionary ("The Ice Palace") to the tragic ("May Day") and the grotesque ("The Diamond as Big as the Ritz").The fifth story is "The Bowl".
The stories are indeed set in the jazz age (1920's)and tell about the (mis)fortunes of young men and women, high school kids, college students and the like, at that time. So imagine proms, high school dances, romances, a lot of drinking and fighting done by the men and a lot of gossip and rivalry among the women.
The writing is excellent and brings forth vivid imagery in rich detail. So you've got a book about an interesting subject (1920's American high-life) that is also beautifully written. Where I come from that's called a good deal.

Salvadorans in Costa Rica: Displaced Lives, by Bridget Hayden

During the political and economic upheaval that swept El Salvador in the 1980s, as many as 20,000 Salvadorans took refuge in Costa Rica. Despite similarities between the countries, most Salvadorans experienced El Salvador and Costa Rica as very different places; yet some 6,000 chose to remain after the violence in their country ended, re-establishing their lives successfully enough that they claimed that they now "felt Costa Rican." Bridget Hayden examines the ways in which these people integrated into Costa Rican society and the ambiguous sense of identity they developed, exploring their experience of the process and the cultural concepts they used to interpret those experiences.

Salvadorans in Costa Rica: Displaced Lives introduces readers to people from a wide range of class and educational backgrounds who had come to Costa Rica from all over El Salvador. All shared the experience of having become refugees and having settled in a new country under the same circumstances, and when the war in their own country ended, they shared a concern about the issues involved in deciding whether to return there. Their diversity allows Hayden to examine the ways in which the language of national identity played out in different contexts and sometimes contradictory ways.

Drawing on contemporary theories of migration and space, Hayden identifies the discourses, narratives, and concepts that Salvadorans in Costa Rica had in common and then analyzes the ways in which their experiences and their uses of those discourses varied. She focuses on key spatial concepts that Salvadorans used in talking about displacement and re-emplacement in order to show how they constructed the experience of settlement and how such variables as gender and age influenced their experiences. Because "nationality" was an idiom they used to relate their experiences, she pays particular attention to the role of national belonging and national difference—in terms of both the ways in which the Salvadorans were received by Costa Ricans and their reactions to their new lives in Costa Rica. A concluding chapter compares them with Salvadorans who emigrated to other countries.

The story of these displaced Salvadorans, focusing on the lives of real people, can give us a new understanding of how individuals feel a sense of belonging to a sociocultural space. By exploring many meanings of the nation and national belonging for different people under varying conditions, Hayden's study provides fresh insights into the dynamics of migration, gender, and nationalism.

From the Back Cover
"Refugees are, in the terms of traditional migration studies, sojourners who will repatriate as soon as possible. This is a logical consequence of the way in which they are defined as people who leave their country involuntarily, in contrast to other migrants who leave of their own volition. Forced to leave, they are expected to always retain their orientation, hopes, and dreams in their country of origin while the country in which they live in the interim is no more than a temporary haven. . . .

"The case I present contradicts the expectation that refugees necessarily repatriate, although Salvadorans did retain an expectation for many years that they would repatriate. It does largely conform to the situation described by the bipolar interpretation of migration in which some migrants eventually settle and lose their orientation to the country of origin. However, it does so not because this was the inevitable outcome, as some interpretations of migration suggest, but because a particular configuration of political, economic, social, and ideological conditions encouraged it." --Bridget Hayden

Mexican Americans and the Environment: Tierra y Vida (The Mexican American Experience), by Devon G. Peña

Mexican Americans have traditionally had a strong land ethic, believing that humans must respect la tierra because it is the source of la vida. As modern market forces exploit the earth, communities struggle to control their own ecological futures, and several studies have recorded that Mexican Americans are more impacted by environmental injustices than are other national-origin groups. In our countryside, agricultural workers are poisoned by pesticides, while farmers have lost ancestral lands to expropriation. And in our polluted inner cities, toxic wastes sicken children in their very playgrounds and homes. This book addresses the struggle for environmental justice, grassroots democracy, and a sustainable society from a variety of Mexican American perspectives. It draws on the ideas and experiences of people from all walks of life—activists, farmworkers, union organizers, land managers, educators, and many others—who provide a clear overview of the most critical ecological issues facing Mexican-origin people today. The text is organized to first provide a general introduction to ecology, from both scientific and political perspectives. It then presents an environmental history for Mexican-origin people on both sides of the border, showing that the ecologically sustainable Norteño land use practices were eroded by the conquest of El Norte by the United States. It finally offers a critique of the principal schools of American environmentalism and introduces the organizations and struggles of Mexican Americans in contemporary ecological politics. Devon Peña contrasts tenets of radical environmentalism with the ecological beliefs and grassroots struggles of Mexican-origin people, then shows how contemporary environmental justice struggles in Mexican American communities have challenged dominant concepts of environmentalism. Mexican Americans and the Environment is a didactically sound text that introduces students to the conceptual vocabularies of ecology, culture, history, and politics as it tells how competing ideas about nature have helped shape land use and environmental policies. By demonstrating that any consideration of environmental ethics is incomplete without taking into account the experiences of Mexican Americans, it clearly shows students that ecology is more than nature study but embraces social issues of critical importance to their own lives.

More Mexicans, less environment?
By James Safranek
An adequate introduction, but smacks of a Southwestern/ parochial 'reconquista' ("El Norte" is filled with back-packing urban elites who are not as sensitive to environmental issues as Mexican-Americans who have had their 'homeland' usurped). Pena also fails to mention the Mexican government's historic involvement in assisting the migration of Mexicans to the U.S. to serve capitalist interests, and, early Mexico's hostile treatment of Indians (in current N.M) centuries ago. Still, I'd like to see my native born (Mexican-American)daughter read the book and filter through some of the weak spots to get an idea of the eco-battles she'll probably be waging in either an urban or rural environment she'll call home. Pena fails as well to consider the impact on the American env. as more and more Mexicans cross the border and attempt to make a home here as well.

Great narrative style that makes learning this important history enjoyable.
By A. Fahlstrom
Full of great facts and information, this book is a must-read for everyone interested in environmental justice, Mexican history and culture, and in anthropology. The organization makes it bearable and it is definitely not dry and hard to get through.
